About me

I’m Ed Fernandez. Much of my life is spent at the bedside as a hospice chaplain, where conversations become simple, honest, and deeply human. Sitting with people in those moments has shaped the way I see the world. It’s taught me to listen more than I speak, to choose words that carry dignity, and to look for the truth that doesn’t need to shout to be heard.

The Editorial Room grew out of that same way of being. After long days of witnessing courage, fear, tenderness, and regret, I found myself wanting a place to think slowly about the world we’re all trying to live in. A place where faith, ethics, and public life could be held together without cynicism or noise. A place where language is used carefully—because I’ve seen how much words can heal or harm.

Here, I write the way I sit with people: with presence, restraint, and a desire to understand. I reflect on public life, leadership, and the stories we tell about ourselves. I try to name things truthfully without losing gentleness, and to offer clarity without adding to the world’s exhaustion. This is the work that feels most like me—quiet, steady, and rooted in the belief that honesty and compassion belong together.

If you’d like to follow along with these reflections, you’re welcome to subscribe. I write at a slow, human pace, and I’d be grateful to have you in the room with me.
